Candidates for Dentures
Did you know nearly one-quarter of adults over 65 are missing all their teeth? Dentures are a dependable and natural-looking solution. You may be a good candidate if you:
- Want to replace several or all teeth
- Don’t smoke or use tobacco products
- Have a healthy jawbone (we can help with this!)
- Don’t suffer from dry mouth
- Are ready to care for your dentures properly
- Continue regular dental visits for routine exams
Caring for Your Dentures
Keep your dentures in great shape with routine cleanings and examinations. Even with perfect prosthetics, regular dental check-ups are necessary to ensure proper fit and examine your gums, tongue, jaw, and overall oral health—because we care about more than just your teeth.
Caring for Your Dentures at Home
- Remove dentures overnight to let your mouth rest.
- Soak dentures in warm water, with or without denture cleanser.
- If dentures have metal clasps, soak only in warm water.
- Keep dentures in water when not wearing them to prevent drying and warping.
- Avoid soaking dentures in hot water.
- Clean and gently massage your gums while dentures are out.
- If brushing is uncomfortable, soften your toothbrush with warm water or use a clean, damp cloth wrapped around your finger.
- For partial dentures, continue to brush your natural teeth as usual.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, dental bridges can restore gaps caused by 1 to 3 missing teeth. Dental implants are another option for any number of missing teeth, though they require a higher initial investment and certain health criteria to qualify.
With proper care and maintenance, dentures typically last 5 to 10 years. However, as your mouth changes over time, you may eventually need to be fitted for a new set.
While you can sleep with dentures, it’s recommended to remove them at night. Taking them out allows for soaking, cleaning your mouth and gums, and giving your jaw and gums time to rest.
Well-fitted top dentures should suction to your gums, while bottom dentures should float above but stay in place. Partial dentures should align with natural teeth without much movement, and implant-supported dentures snap securely in place. If you’re unsure about the fit, book an appointment to have them checked and adjusted.
After adjusting to your dentures, you can eat most foods, but some may cause irritation. Sticky or hard items like caramel, raw carrots, or tough meats, as well as foods with small particles like popcorn or seeded crackers, may be challenging and are best enjoyed occasionally.
