What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a procedure that utilizes composite resin, a material commonly used for composite fillings, to reshape and restore damaged teeth. Through a process known as Bonded Restoration, teeth that are chipped, cracked, or broken can be carefully reconstructed, effectively restoring them to a like-new condition. With proper care and maintenance, dental bonding can provide long-lasting results. Additionally, dental bonding is utilized for cosmetic purposes, such as reshaping teeth, correcting color discrepancies, and closing gaps in the smile, offering an alternative to veneers or orthodontic treatments.

Durability and Minimally Invasive Benefits of Dental Bonding

While various dental procedures can enhance your smile, dental bonding stands out as a versatile and minimally invasive option that offers comprehensive smile enhancement.

Reasons for choosing dental bonding include:

  • Versatility:  Dental bonding addresses multiple cosmetic concerns in one procedure, such as filling in gaps between teeth, repairing chipped areas, reshaping teeth, and improving tooth color.
  • Durability:  Dental bonding materials are resilient and long-lasting, providing durable results with proper care and maintenance.
  • Aesthetics:  Composite resin used in dental bonding can be color-matched to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, ensuring a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing result.
  • Minimal Tooth Alteration: Unlike some other cosmetic procedures, dental bonding typically requires minimal to no alteration of your natural tooth structure, preserving the integrity of your teeth. This makes it a conservative and minimally invasive option for smile enhancement.

What to Expect at a Bonding Appointment?

Whether you’re seeking dental bonding for restorative purposes or purely aesthetic reasons, the process remains consistent. Here’s a step-by-step overview of what to expect during your dental bonding appointment:

Preparation

Your neighboring teeth are shielded with a thin plastic film called a dental matrix to safeguard them from the preparation gel or composite resin. Afterward, your tooth is meticulously cleaned and dried. A mildly acidic gel is then applied for a brief period to create a rough surface for optimal bonding.

Apply the Composite Resin

Once the acidic gel is removed and the tooth is dried once more, the composite resin is applied. Your dentist selects a resin shade that closely matches your natural teeth for a seamless blend. The resin is applied in layers, with each layer being cured using a special blue light to ensure maximum strength and durability.

Finishin Touches

After confirming your bite alignment, the dental bonding process is concluded. To complete the procedure, your dentist gives your tooth a final polish, leaving it looking beautiful and indistinguishable from your natural teeth. A note is made in your dental chart for future reference, and during subsequent exams, special attention will be given to the bonded tooth to monitor for any signs of wear and tear.

Cost of Dental Bonding in Summerlin, Las Vegas

Determining the exact cost of dental bonding can vary based on several factors, making it challenging to provide a precise estimate without assessing your individual needs and examining your teeth. However, as a general guideline, dental bonding typically ranges from $300 to $600 or more per tooth without insurance coverage. Most insurance plans often cover dental bonding, especially when it’s necessary to restore a broken or damaged tooth, resulting in out-of-pocket costs averaging between $60 to $120 with insurance.

Several key factors influence the cost of your dental bonding treatment, including:

  • The number of teeth requiring bonding.
  • Whether new x-rays are necessary.
  • The amount of composite resin needed for the procedure.
  • The location of the affected teeth within your mouth.
  • Your current overall oral health.

It’s important to note that no dentist can provide an accurate quote over the phone. We encourage you to schedule an examination with us so that we can assess your specific needs and provide you with a personalized quote in person. This will allow you to understand your final costs and make an informed decision regarding your dental treatment.
