Dental Crowns

Dental crowns (or caps) are an option to protect a tooth that’s been damaged, decayed, or even teeth that cause bite problems.  Crowns replace dental enamel as well as  strengthening damaged teeth allowing them to used normally again.  Covering a good portion, or the entire part of the tooth emerging through the gum, a crown can restore a tooth that’s badly broken down or protected a tooth against fracture after a root canal. High quality dental ceramics,  or crowns,  are virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.  Dr. Lobato is a Summerlin dentist designing dental crowns that have a natural appearance, showing luminosity and reflect light just like natural  vitality, and youth seen in natural teeth.

Crowns can be made from a variety of materials.  Dr. Lobato commonly places crowns that are made from all porcelain, or full gold. Full gold crowns offer longevity, because porcelain can never fracture away in time, but most people prefer the placement of a natural looking tooth made with porcelain. Occasionally, crowns are designed with porcelain over metal.  While the design process of this type of crown has some advantages,  disadvantages include showing a dark line at the gum level.  This design should only be used when other options are not available,  especially on front teeth. Dr. Lobato and his staff are very careful in helping you select the right type of crown for the right situation.
